Slow news week as we enter the final month of the year.
Rock Racing denied Pro Conti. The UCI approved the registration of the following 19 UCI Professional Continental Teams for the 2010 season, and as expected the BMC Racing Team registered in the USA is part of the list. The other teams are: Acqua & Sapone (ITA), Andalucia Cajasur (ESP), Bbox Bouygues Telecom (FRA), Carmiooro – NGC (GBR), CCC Polsat Polkowice (POL), Ceramica Flaminia (IRL), Cervélo Test Team (SUI), Cofidis (FRA), Colnago – CSF Inox (IRL), De Rosa – Stac Plastic (IRL), ISD – Neri (ITA), Landbouwkrediet (BEL), Saur – Sojasun (FRA), Scott – Marcondes César Sao José dos Campos (BRA), Skil – Shimano (NED), Topsport Vlaanderen – Mercator (BEL), Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team (NED) and Voralberg – Corratec (AUT).
Team Owner Michael Ball released the following statement on the UCI’s decision: “We’re obviously very disappointed but are working diligently to satisfy every requirement that is being asked of us. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure we can race next year.”
Rock Racing can still appeal to the Management Committee of the UCI by Friday December 4, 2009, at noon at the latest.

Equal payouts at Capital Cross Classic. The MAC series culminates with one of MAC’s oldest races, the Capital Cross Classic presented by The Bike Lane in the Washington DC suburb of Reston Virginia on December 6. Capital Cross starts its second decade by returning to its roots as a purely domestic race. Given that daylight hours are at a premium, being under USAC sanctioning instead will allow the organizer to combine classes in different ways so they can shorten the race program by one hour.
The Elite Men and Women will be racing for equal payouts as Capital Cross will offer a completely equal prize list to the Elite Women. Both Men’s and Women’s Elite races will pay out a $1,300 cash purse through ten places.
Of note, this year’s race will once again benefit Trips for Kids of Metro Washington DC. Trips for Kids of Metro DC helps disadvantaged youth in the Metropolitan DC area learn important life lessons through fun and educational mountain bike excursions into Virginia, Maryland and DC parks and nature areas. The goal of these trips is to bring some fun and excitement to the stressful life of today’s DC area youths. These trips also provide the opportunity to educate children about important issues such as self-worth and responsibility, health, nutrition, environment, careers, and other topical issues. Kids leave from their adventure with a sense of accomplishment, a fond memory and new knowledge about themselves and their world.

Canadian to Europe. 20-year old (almost 21) Keir Plaice will be racing in the Netherlands with the Volharding team.
Plaice wrote “My ultimate cycling ambitions lie in Europe and I will attack this opportunity with great enthusiasm. I will have chances at several Dutch and Belgian classics and other one day UCI races. There will also be plenty of high level local racing. Surely there will be many challenges and some shit kickings. That being said; I am determined to do well and if I can succeed there it will take my cycling career to an entirely different level.” Good luck!
