Zajicek tames the Monster; Leipheimer & Armstrong win overall at Gila

After surviving punishing pace set by Chris Horner, Phil Zajicek (Fly V Australia) outkicks Mellow Johnny duof of Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer to win Gila Monster. Leipheimer wins overall. Kristin Armstrong (Cervelo TestTeam) continued her domination and wins final stage and overall classification.

Leipheimer and Armstrong smoke the Gila Time Trial

Both Levi Leipheimer (Astana) and Kristin Armstrong (Cervélo TestTeam) smoked the 16-mile (26km) time trial at the SRAM Tour of the Gila, setting new course records in the process and increasing the lead in the overall classification.

Talking Gila with Burke Swindlehurst

One of the toughest stage races in North America, the SRAM Tour of the Gila kicks off on Wednesday where it challenges riders with five days of leg busting climbing, arrowing descents and often brutal winds in New Mexico. Who best to describe the race and the stages than the (only?) three-time winner BISSELL’s Burke Swindlehurst who also conquered the Gila Monster four times in his career … so far.
