Overall winner of the Joe Martin Stage Race, Luis Amaran (Jamis/Sutter Home) and Alison Powers (Team VBF) take over the lead for NRC individual standings. No changes in the team standings with Fly V Australia and Team VBF still in the lead.

Abbott and Team VBF take over Women NRC lead

Her overall win at the SRAM Tour of the Gila propelled Mara Abbot (Peanut Butter Co TWENTY12) to the top of the NRC Individual Women Standings. Team VBF takes over the team classification. No changes on the men side, Ben Day and his Fly V Australia team still lead the standings.

Fly V Australia take over men’s NRC lead

The Fly V Australia continued their winning ways last weekend, making it three out of three events in the NRC for the Australia Continental team. First it was Ben Day winning the overall at Redlands Bicycle Classic followed by Jonathan Cantwell taking the chaotic Dana Point Grand Prix, and now it’s Ben Kersten.

The National Racing Calendar (NRC) is USA Cycling’s national race series, which, essentially, helps determine the top team racing a full season in North America. The NRC also determines an individual national champion, with riders accruing points for race wins and placings during the season.

A closer look at the 2010 NRC

Last week, USA Cycling published the 2010 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) with 27 events total, where 15 are criteriums and 8 are multi-day stage rages. Last year, the initial NRC had 34 events, but as races were canceled throughout the year, only 26 events were finally completed. The 2010 includes 8 men’s-only and 2 women’s-only events.
