For the third consecutive year, Meredith Miller will race on the California Giant Berry Farms/Specialized Cyclocross Team in head-to-toe pink garb in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.
In all started in 2010 when team director Anthony Gallino proposed the idea to Miller and then teammate Teal Stetson-Lee.
“It’s been very cool wearing pink and definitely gotten a lot of positive feedback from people, just thanking me from raising awareness and for what I’m doing to give back to such a good cause. I’ve had people ask me where they can get the pink jerseys or skinsuits.” Miller explained in 2010. “Like in Providence I had a father out there with his two little girls, watching, it was great they were in this one section, they were screaming, screaming for me every time I came by. And then afterwards, he sent me a twitter message saying now all my girls want is a pink jersey.” she laughed.
Not only is Miller raising awareness about this special cause, but she also work to raise funds as she did previously to support her favorite breast cancer organization, Hope Lives! The Lydia Dody Breast Cancer Foundation. This non-profit is based in Fort Collins and provides local breast cancer patients with complementary care and lifestyle support during treatment.
Miller wrote, “Over the past two years, I invited sponsors, friends and fans to become “Pretty in Pink” with me. Responses far exceeded my expectations. Together we raised $15,000 for Hope Lives! with silent auctions, online raffles and t-shirt sales.”
“My goal this year is to raise an additional $10,000 – to bring our grand total donated to $25,000 over three years. To do this I’ve partnered with incredibly generous companies to bring you a variety of ways to help the cause.”
Miller is raising funds through her newly launched “Pretty is the New Fast” clothing line with t-shirts from Breakaway and jerseys from Voler now available for purchase online; with raffle tickets available at Planet Bike Cup in Madison, WI or Smart Wool Cup in Fort Collins, CO for a chance to win prizes from lululemon, Light & Motion, Thule, Mad Alchemy, Modify and Oakley; and an online raffle that includes a SRAM-equipped Crux with Zipp wheels as a grand prize. Check back in early October for a complete list of all raffle items.
