Mock Orange Bikes, the small Winston-Salem, NC bicycle shop is happy to announce its second year of running a professional cyclocross team.
“Last year was our freshmen year organizing a team of this caliber, and could not be happier with the results and success we had. We were able to put together a good mix of veteran and young riders, and the result was a very well rounded team. Having a cyclocross veteran like Jon Hamblen, who has been racing cross for so many years really helped the younger riders to continue to learn and develop.” stated the team release.
2011 produced great results including UCI elite wins, State championship and regional championship victories along with dozens of regional race wins. The Shields twins finished 4th and 5th at U23 Nationals, and three of the Mock Orange Bikes Elite men placed in the top 20. Travis Livermon won the NC State Championship and Jerome Townsend won the New England regional championship.
More of the elite riders are returning for 2012. Jon Hamblen and Travis Livermon will be joined this year by professional mountain biker Alex Ryan and the squad is happy to welcome back the Shields twins, Emily and Katherine. As well as the elite riders, the team will continue to develop junior and U23 riders through their club team.
Title sponsor Mock Orange Bikes, also the owners and managers of the team, return once again as the main financial supporter of the team. Ridley bikes, ENVE wheels, Pactimo clothing, Shimano components, the South East Center for Contemporary Art as well as a handful of other sponsors and contributors join Mock Orange in making this program possible.
Riders will be competing all across the US at UCI events and the USGP Series, Starting with CrossVegas and then on to the USGP in Madison, Wisconsin and Charm City in Baltimore, Maryland.
The mission in starting and continuing to support the team is to provide young, up and coming talent with a platform from which to succeed in the sport. Cyclocross, the fastest growing discipline in bicycle racing, is a sport steeped in tradition, community, and camaraderie. The Mock Orange Bikes Cyclocross team has been built upon these same ideals. The result has been the local cycling community joining hands with team sponsors to share a common passion for the sport and continue to facilitate its growth in the US.
