After a successful 2012 racing season with victories and podiums at stage races such as the Tour of the Gila, Cascade Cycling Classic, and Vuelta Ciclista de Chile, the Jamis-Sutter Home Professional Cycling Team is back and ready to race in 2013. Jamis Bicycles and Sutter Home Family Vineyards will team up for the 4th consecutive year as co-title sponsors of this U.S.-based team.
Carine Joannou, the president and CEO of Jamis Bicycles, is pleased to be back sponsoring a top level professional team. “Jamis Bicycles has been family owned since 1937, which makes us the oldest business in the U.S.A. under original family ownership. The Jamis-Sutter Home Professional Cycling Team is part of our family and we’re proud to be represented by them in both domestic and international races.”
Director Sportif Sebastian Alexandre has assembled a roster of riders capable of competing in the biggest races on the U.S. racing calendar. “I have built a strong stage race team. Our main goal for the 2013 season is to be back in races like the Tour of California, Tour of Utah, and the U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado.”
The team will be led by returning rider and 2010 National Racing Calendar Champion, Luis Amaran, as well as two more big new signings: the recent KOM winner of the Tour of Utah, Ben Jacques-Maynes; and the Colombian climbing ace, Janier Acevedo. Joining them will be a core squad of returning riders including Jamey Driscoll, Philip Mooney, Kyle Wamsley, Carson Miller, Demis Aleman, and Jackie Simes.
Alexandre is excited about the new additions to the team. “Ben is a well-respected rider that has consistently delivered results at the highest level. His stage racing expertise, experience, and proven leadership will be a fantastic addition to the team.” Ben joins the team from Bissell Pro Cycling and has been a fixture at the top of the results sheet of UCI and NRC races for the last decade. Alexandre is hoping to capitalize on his aggressive racing style, tactical savvy, and strong time trial abilities in major races. A Watsonville, CA native, his racing strengths will be on full display at his home race, the Tour of California.
Janier Acevedo is a 26 year old climbing sensation from Caramanta, Colombia. He burst on to the American racing scene in 2011 during stage 4 of the Tour of Utah, where his explosive climbing prowess was put on display on his way to a solo stage win in Salt Lake City. His string of results continued the next week at the U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado, where he finished 5th and 7th in the first two stages, respectively. “I couldn’t be more excited to be bringing Janier to the team. With hilly races such as the Tour of the Gila, Tour of California, and Tour of Utah on the schedule, we can be sure that he will be climbing with the best and deliver outstanding results.” Janier comes to the team after riding for Gobernacion de Antioquia the past few seasons. His exceptional climbing ability will make him a threat for the GC and stage wins in hilly races in 2013, his first season racing a primarily U.S.-based schedule.
Additional signings are expected in the coming weeks.
