Small, Milne Take Joe Martin Stage 2

Carmen Small sprinted into the leader’s jersey at stage 2 of the Joe Martin Stage Race as her team Optum Pro Cycling-KBS takes hold of all the jerseys with two stages to go. Once again, Kathryn Donovan (FCS|Rouse) was second, two seconds back. Small’s teammate Jade Wilcoxson took third, 39 seconds later.

With her 10-second time bonus, Small becomes the new leader, with four seconds on Donovan. Wilcoxson jumped up to third, at 50 seconds down.  Small also picks up the green sprint jersey while her teammate Courteney Lowe takes over the best young rider jersey.

Shawn Milne (Kenda/5-Hour Energy) claimed stage 2 which ended in a bunch sprint after a break was reeled in the final kilometer. Yellow jersey Francisco Mancebo (CompetitiveCyclist) was second while Eric Young (Bissell) took third.

With the time bonus at the finish, Mancebo increased his lead to 18 seconds on his teammate Cesar Grajales who moved up to second spot. Sebastian Salas (Optum Pro Cycling-KBS) dropped to third. at 20 seconds. Milne jumped up to fourth at 22 seconds.   Milne also leads the sprint competition. In 10th on GC,  Joseph Schmalz (ELBOWZ) remains in the white best young rider with a 10-second lead on Steve Fisher (Hagens Berman).

Another road stage on Saturday which delivered some of the most dynamic racing in North America last year.  12-mile out-and-back spur from the staging area, the riders tackle a 23-mile loop that features over 1,500 feet of climbing per lap. The men do 4 loops for 104 miles (167 km) in total and the women 2 loops for a total of 58 miles (93 km).
