Nate English (Kenda/5-Hr Energy) clocked the fastest time of 17 minutes and 19 seconds on the time trial, third stage of the Sea Otter Classic men’s stage race on Saturday afternoon. He kept an average speed of 21.1 mph (43.6 km/h) on the 7.8-mile (12.6km) hilly course. His teammate and yellow jersey Andy Jacques-Maynes was second at four seconds down. Rounding off the podium was stage three winner Matt Cooke (Team Exergy) at five seconds.
With one stage to go, Jacques-Maynes increased his lead in the overall classification to 14 seconds on Morgan Schmitt (Exergy) who finished fifth, at 18 seconds in the time trial. Cooke is in third place, at one minute and 32 seconds down.
The battle between Kenda/5-hr Energy and Team Exergy for the overall win will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the circuit race held on the Laguna Seca racetrack. Each 2.2-mile lap includes a challenging 300-foot climb and the descent down the Corkscrew. Time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds will be awarded at the finish line.
