No Major Changes To UCI Cross Rankings

The are only eight spots per row at the start of a UCI cyclocross race and those spots are determined by UCI standings. With the World Championships coming up, the next World Cup is of prime importance to try and move up a row. Let’s see where the American and Canadian riders stand with only Hoogerheide left before the big race in Koksijde, Belgium.

The World Cup in Liévin, France won by World Champions Zdenek Stybar (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) and Marianne Vos (Stichting Rabo Women Cycling Team) didn’t bring any major changes to the UCI Cross Rankings with one more World Cup left before the Cyclocross World Championships. The only change in the Elite Men’s rankings was Niels Albert (BKCP – Powerplus) dropping down two spots to sixth.

Though he finished fourth in Liévin, Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet) remains in the lead with 77-points on Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb-Revor Cycling Team) with Stybar in third. US National Champion Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) continues to be the top American in the list, holding in 11th. Ryan Trebon (LTS/Felt) moved up two spots to 16th with Tim Johnson (Cannondale-cyclocrossworld.com) dropping to 20th. All three will be representing the USA at Worlds, along with Jonathan Page (Planet Bike) who sits in 23rd, Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale-cyclocrossworld.com) in 28th and Chris Jones (Rapha-Focus) in 70th.

U23 National Champion Zach McDonald (Rapha-Focus) is in 59th with Cody Kaiser (CalGiant/Specialized) in 120th. Both will represent the USA in the U23 World Championships.

The lone representative for Canada in the Elite Men’s Worlds race is Craig Richey who sits in 81st. In 244th, Félix Bouvette is the lone U23 Canadian rider for Worlds.

Vos remains on top of the women’s standings with a 20-point lead on eight-times US Cross Champion Katie Compton (Rabobank-Giant Off-Road Team). Dutch Daphny van den Brand (AA Drink-Leontien.nl Cycling Team) sits in third. Meredith Miller (CalGiant/Specialized) is the top American in 20th followed by U23 National Champion Kaitie Antonneau (Cannondale-cyclocrossworld.com) in 20th, Amy Dombroski (Crank Brothers) in 21st and Nicole Duke (Cannondale-cyclocrossworld.com) in 27th. All five will represent the USA at the Worlds Elite Women’s race – there are no U23 women’s races at the World Championships.

Canada is not sending any woman to the World Championships.

Drew Dillman (Bob’s Red Mill), in 8th, remains the top American in the Junior rankings led by Mathieu van der Poel of the Netherlands. US Junior 17/18 Champion Logan Owen (Team Redline) is in 11th with Curtis White (Clif Bar Development Cyclo Cross Team) in 17th, Tobin Ortenblad (CalGiant/Specialized) in 19th and Cypress Gorry (Whole Athlete) in 38th. All five will be representing the USA at the World Championships.

For Canada, Jr National Champion Yohan Patry sits in 27th. He will be joined by Samuel Beaudoin, now in 82nd, at the World Championships.
