Team Mountain Khakis/SmartStop will return as a UCI Continental-level professional team in 2012, made possible by recommitments from title sponsors Mountain Khakis and SmartStop Self Storage. 2012 will mark the fifth year the Jackson Hole-based Mountain Khakis company has been the title sponsor of Team Mountain Khakis, and the second year for SmartStop.
Team Mountain Khakis swept the 2011 USA CRITS Series, claiming the Individual championship and Team titles for the third year in a row. The team has re-signed their entire 2011 roster, and Adam Myerson will again serve as a captain and mentor to the proven squad. According to Myerson, “The split in the NRC calendar into two series has definitely shaped our rider selection and goals for 2012.” The team will chase the new National Criterium Calendar, which, in contrast to the NRC, features a full calendar with 19 events and includes almost all of the major one-day criteriums across the nation. Pair that with a growing USA Crits Series, also a priority for Team Mountain Khakis/SmartStop, and 2012 is already looking to be a busy year.
The team has long recognized the popularity and marketing exposure offered by this uniquely American discipline of racing. “We are really excited about the NCC and the USA Crits Series this year. The team has prioritized criteriums for several seasons, and it is great to have this new level of support and recognition for these events,” said Team owner Jamie Bennett. “In the past we have tried to develop riders and move them onto the next stage of their careers. But with this new NCC format and the recognition it brings, a criterium-focused program like ours is no longer just a stepping stone. All of our riders on the same page. This is the next phase for them, and although many had other options, we are honored to have them back.”
In addition to the returning 8 riders, the team has also added Chris Monteleone (Kenda/5-hour Energy), Shane Kline (Bissell Pro Cycling), and Clay Murfet (RideClean presented by Patentit.com). The full roster also includes returning riders Neil Bezdek, Thomas Brown, Jon Hamblen, Luke Keough, Travis Livermon, Adam Myerson, Jerome Townsend and Ben Zawacki.
“Mountain Khakis is becoming a stalwart of bicycle racing support and, along with SmartStop, provides the backbone that this organization needs to be successful,” Bennett added. “For us, that backbone has always been stability and longevity. We are grateful to have loyal sponsors that share our goals, year and year out.” In addition to their two titles sponsors, the team will ride with continued support from Ridley, Champion Systems, Maxxis, The Happy Tooth family dentistry , VP components, TRP brakes, Tifosi, Lazer, and Reynolds wheels.
