Katie Compton (Rabobank Giant) took another solo win at day one of the Cincinnati3 Cyclocross Festival, but she waited a bit longer before making her solo move. With a tough course, and two more days of racing, Compton did not want to go in too deep.
About the course. “It’s such a heavy hard course. You go out full on, it catches up with you. I didn’t want to do it that way, I just wanted to relax and with three days of racing, it’s like a three-day stage race with the intensity. I just wanted to stay with the group and find my moment to push harder, it’s tough out there, you think you want to go faster but as soon as you start pushing hard, the course kind of pushes back.”
About her solo move. “Georgia (Gould) got gapped on the second lap, me and Meredith (Miller) just kept on pushing. I think I may have gotten Meredith on the third lap, the rubber band snapped a little bit, I just kept pushing harder on the hills since I know that’s hard spot to pedal and you can’t draft.”
About the mud. “It was tough. It’s funny because it takes a few races to get the mud skills back and you just want to drill though it but then you realize you lose traction and you have to finesse and carry speed. “
