Reigning US U23 Cyclocross Champion Kaitie Antonneau (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) had a great ride on the opener of the Cincinnati3 Cyclocross Festival. On the tough course with multiple uphills, Antonneau made up way picking off riders as she went, to ultimately claim third.
“I felt that I wasn’t going that fast because the course is so hard and there’s a lot of uphill but I just rode within myself and just kept picking people off. It was good, I’m happy with how it went.” Antonneau said about her ride.
During her surge up, Antonneau caught riders including Georgia Gould (Luna), she explained, “I just went in front and just rode within myself on the climb, saw that I was by myself. It was a good race but I wanted to make sure I had some in the tank for Sunday too.”
Antonneau was keeping in mind that there were two races to go this weekend. “At times, I was trying to go faster but it was just so hard out there, but it was okay.”
For the young rider, the climbs were both the easiest and most difficult part of the course. “Just because I think I did well on the climbs but it was the hardest.”
And then there was the mud. “I struggled with the mud, every other lap I would make it and then not make it.”
