The USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) event originally scheduled in Evanston, IL on August 21st has been cancelled. Organizers of the Evanston Grand Prix previously announced an event date change, due to contractual issues, which forced the race’s removal from the NRC schedule – as originally reported by ChicagoBikeRacing.com.
Local Chicago-area and USA Cycling officials were then unable to secure a replacement NRC event in the limited time frame.
”Simply stated there was just not enough time to produce a quality replacement NRC event on such short notice and so a decision was made to cancel the August 21st date,” explained USA Cycling Managing Director of National Events Micah Rice.
It is the third event to be removed from the NRC this year. The first one was the Tour of Battenkill which was removed by the organizer following a dispute with the UCI and USA Cycling on which teams could and could not be invited. The second one, was the Fitchburg-Longsjo which had to be canceled following a fire.
The NRC calendar will now be comprised of 28 total events in 2011.
