Team Type 1 – sanofi-aventis rider Will Dugan has withdrawn from the Amgen Tour of California following a crash during the final minutes of Stage 3 in Modesto, CA yesterday. Unable to avoid the crash after another rider went down in his path, Dugan got back on the bike and finished the final 8 kilometers. An assessment by team doctors determined a withdrawal was necessary to ensure a proper recovery.
The news was a disappointment for Dugan who hoped to continue on and and support his team.
“My job here was really to watch out for Aleksandr Efimkin as our GC rider for Team Type 1 – sanofi-aventis. In a race like this, GC is determined in the mountains and I’m disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to fulfill my role as a support rider,” said Dugan.
After returning to Burlington, VT this week, Dugan will focus on training for the USA Pro Cycling Championships in Greenville, SC on May 28-30.
