On Tap: Sea Otter Classic
Posted on 13. Apr, 2011 by lyne in race
In the cornucopia that is Sea Otter Classic with its mountain bike races and expo at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area in Monterey CA, is a 4-stage omnium with a crit, road race, TT and a final circuit race with the infamous corkscrew on Laguna Seca Raceway. Unfortunately, the crit is still using the lame hotdog course as last year on the track but both the road and circuit stages offer up interesting courses and the TT is brand new this year.
As always you can count on podiuminsight to bring you the action – live updates on @podium_live
For many, it’s the only game in town as far as road racing with no NRC events for a couple of weeks. For others, it’s a chance to race and do well in front of sponsors. Along with individual stage wins and overall GC, sprints and KOM competitions are also on the line.
Riders from BISSELL, Exergy, CalGiant/Specialized, USAF Academy, Trek Livestrong U23, Chipotle Development, RideClean, Jelly Belly and more are on the pre-registered list for the men’s race. On the women’s side, Peanut Butter Co Twenty12, Vanderkitten-Focus, TIBCO/To The Top, Missing Link/Specialized, Primal/MapMyRide and more should be toeing the line. (See list of pre-registered riders).
Weather has played havoc in the past, with high winds, heat, torrential rain but this year, it seems calm. Predictions call for cloudy with cool temperatures around the mod-60s F.
