After two years in Bend, Oregon, the USA Cycling Junior, U23, Elite Road Nationals will move to Augusta, Georgia for the next two years. The city, best known for the Masters Golf Tournament, also hosted stages during the now defunct Tour de Georgia.
National titles will be awarded in each category for the road race, criterium, and individual time trial competitions. The 2011 event will take place June 21-26 while the 2012 edition is slated for June 18-24.
The location for the US Pro Criterium Championships and US Pro Road Championship for 2011 is currently unknown, but one can read in this announcement from USA Cycling that once again the US Men Pro Crit Championship will be held at a different venue than the women and U23 men. This year, the pro men had their championship in Glencoe, IL as part of the Glencoe Grand Prix on August 14, while the women and U23 men had theirs in Bend, OR in late June. Glencoe did not submit a bid for the US Pro Crit in 2011.
The US Pro Road Championship, ie for men pro, will be held for the fifth year in Greenville, SC this year.
Cross country and Gravity Split. USA Cycling also announced that they split the cross country and gravity portions of the mountain bike national championships into two separate events beginning in 2011.
In its first two years at its very own venue, the 2011 and 2012 USA Cycling Cross Country Mountain Bike National Championships will be held in Sun Valley, Idaho. The event will be organized by Breakaway Promotions and will include the Olympic-style cross country, short track cross country, and Super D competitions.
All categories of racers will duke it out on the trails of Sun Valley for Stars-and-Stripes jerseys during the UCI-mandated dates of July 14-17, 2011.
The downhill, four-cross, and dual slalom contests will be included with the USA Cycling Gravity Mountain Bike National Championships, whose 2011 date and location has yet to be announced.
