With his win at Chris Thater Memorial Crit – which also delivered a 1-2 for his Fly V Australia team – Jonathan Cantwell capped off a hot streak of racing in the United States. Since July, his win column includes the NRC races Boise Twilight Crit, two stage wins and the overall at the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove and the Presbyterian Hospital Criterium in Charlotte. Add to that, the final three races and the overall at the Point Premium Root Beer International Cycling Classic Superweek Pro Tour.
The 1-2 punch this weekend at the final NRC race cemented his team taking the top of the standings in the NRC Team Classification – a priority for the squad in the second half of the season.
In his second year with the squad, and fourth in America, the 28-year old Australian focused on bigger races this year, all to get ready for the journey to the ProTour. We talked following his win in Binghamton on Sunday about the race, his focus this year and taking on Cavendish.
