While the Bend Memorial Clinic Cascade Cycling Classic didn’t bring any changes at the top of both the men and women individual NRC standings, it did make the race much tighter as the season winds down.
Giro Donne champion Mara Abbott (Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY12) finished on the podium four of the six days in Bend to win the Cascade Cycling Classic title. Abbott’s performance allowed her to move into third place in the women’s NRC overall standings. Leader Cath Cheatley (Colavita/Baci p/b Cooking Light), who finished second at Cascade, extended her advantage to 150 points over Alison Powers (Team Vera Bradley Foundation). Erinne Willock (Webcor) moved into the top 5.
In the women team standings, Colavita/Baci p/b Cooking Light took over the top with a slim lead of 27 points of previous leader Team VBF. Only two criteriums remain in the women’s calendar, with a total of 240 points on the line.
On the men’s side, Rory Sutherland (UnitedHealthcare p/b Maxxis) leapfrogged the idle Scott Zwizanski (Kelly Benefit Strategies) to take over second place in the men’s NRC overall standings. Luis Amaran (Jamis Sutter Home-Colavita) continues to lead, holding a 191-point edge over Sutherland. Ben Day (Fly V Australia) jumped up to third on the strength of his second-place at Cascade.
Jamis/Sutter Home still leads the men team standings with UnitedHealthcare in second spot at 90 points down.
