Day and Teutenberg lead NRC

The 2010 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) officially got underway last weekend, March 25-28, with the Redlands Bicycle Classic in California for both the men and women’s peloton.
Ben Day (Fly V Australia) won the opening prologue and the overall GC, beating Ben Jacques-Maynes (BISSELL) and Will Routley (Jelly Belly) by matters of seconds. It was Day’s first overall victory at an NRC stage race.
In the women’s competition, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (HTC-Columbia) grabbed a stage win and the overall victory ahead of Kat Carroll (Peanut Butter & Co Twenty12) and Alexis Rhodes (Team Vera Bradley Foundation). Reports and Photos from Redlands here.
With the first event on the NRC in the books, Day and Teutenberg have taken the early leads in the standings with 298 and 304 points respectively. Jelly Belly p/b Kenda sits atop the elite men’s team standings with 448 points and HTC Columbia leads the women’s team standings with 488 points.

The National Racing Calendar will continue for the men on April 11 with the Dana Point Grand Prix in Dana Point, Calif, followed by the Sunny King Criterium in Anniston, AL on April 17 for both men and women.
