In both the Elite Men’s and Women’s races, the winner soloed to victory on a muddy course at the NACT Blue Sky Velo Cup race in Colorado.  Planet Bike’s Katie Compton continued her undefeated streak in the US as she gets ready to take on Europe on her quest for the old medal at the World Championship. Tim Johnson of Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com dropped his teammate to grab the top step as his team swept another podium.

After snow blanked the state starting on Tuesday, the sun made its appearance just in time to get some mud, alwys a treat at a cross race.  Compton demonstrated why she is leading the UCI standings, and the elite women’s race quickly became a race for second as Compton turned the race into a dirt time trial. The Luna Chix duo of Georgia Gould and Alison Dunlap swept up second and third. Meredith Miller (California Giant Specialized) finished fourth and mountain biker Kelli Emmett (Giant) rounded out the top five.

After escaping the Elite Men’s race together,  Johnson powered away from his teammate Jeremy Powers, in what seemed to be almost a repeat from last weekend’s results but the only difference was the fight between Powers and the third teammate Jamey Driscoll for second place. In the end, Powers took it over Driscoll.  Adam Craig (Giant) put in a good show to take fourth while Troy Wells (Clif Bar) was fifth.

The battle will continue Sunday as both Powers and Johnson are poised to take the red leader’s jersey going into the final weekend of the NACT.

With 8 inches of snow since Tuesday, Sunday’s race has been moved to Boulder Reservoir.  The same schedule as stated in the race program will be followed.
