US Pro returns to Greenville; changes to UCI Calendar
Posted on 29. Oct, 2009 by lyne in news
The Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Professional Championships will return to Greenville, S.C. for a fifth consecutive year in 2010, with new dates set for September 18-19, 2010.
To accommodate two new ProTour races, the first ever to be held in North America, the US Pro TT and Road Championships were moved down three weeks in the calendar, and the Tour of Missouri shifted earlier to August 30 – September 5th.
These two new races, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal are scheduled for September 10 and 12. The dates for the first edition of the races were chosen to avoid competing with the UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships, taking place in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Québec on the first weekend of September.
Earlier this year, the Grand Prix Cyclistes of Québec and Montréal were awarded ProTour status by the UCI for four years. Beginning in 2011, they will be permanent fixtures on the international race calendar and will be held on the weekend prior to the first Monday in September (Labor Day).
One winner in these changes, is the UCI 1.2 Univest Grand Prix, which for the past three years was in direct conflict with the Tour of Missouri.
Another new race appeared on the UCI America Tour Calendar, La visite chrono de Gatineau, a timetrial for both Men and Women, to be held on Jun 12. I’m still looking for information on that race.
The UCI Road World Championships are scheduled for September 29 – October 3, 2010 in Melbourne, Australia.
For completeness, here is the calendar of UCI races to be held in Canada and the USA, for men, women, U23 men and junior. The three races on the US Pro Tour that were canceled last year, the Tour de Georgia, U.S. Open of Cycling and Tour de New York, are back on the schedule, for now.
