The Triple Crown of Cycling aka Philly Week is in serious jeopardy as the first 2 races of the series, the Lehigh Valley Classic held in Allentown and the Reading Classic, are without sponsors for the upcoming 2009 edition. The crown jewel, the Philadelphia International Championship is not impacted by the sponsor loss.
TD Bank which bought the race’s sponsor for the past 3 years, Commerce Bank, is only interested in sponsoring the Philly race itself.
”TD [Bank] is no longer sponsoring the Triple Crown series,” Pro Cycling Tour president David Chauner told the morningcall.com. ”They’re going to be sponsoring the Philadelphia race but will not be sponsoring the Lehigh Valley Classic.”
The Pro Cycling Tour is working with government officials in both Reading and Allentown to bring the race back to those cities this year, but first it needs to line up a sponsor. The deadline in end of February according to the Reading mayor to line a new sponsor.
How many other race or team sponsors will be impacted by economic problems and have to pull our their sponsorships in 2009?
