The 2009 Canadian Road Calendar (updated)
Posted on 25. Nov, 2008 by lyne in news
Last week, the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) announced the 2009 Canadian Road Calendar which includes events for paracyclists, junior, U23, masters, men and women pro cyclists.
The calendar contains a total of 12 events of which 10 of are sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). That makes it 2 less events than in 2008. Gone from the calendar are the Coupe de la Paix, the Welland Race and the Tour de Québec, but a new event with 2 single day races, the Tour de Kootenays, in British Columbia is showing in early July.
The Kootenays region is located in southern British Columbia, along the US border with Washington and Idaho. With no race website, not much is known about this new race except that the first day would involve a 180-km ride from Rossland to just east of New Denver and the second day would be a circuit loop in and around Castlegar.
updated: The inaugural UCI Americas “Tour de Kootenays” 2009 delivers two challenging one-day International Races (2 X 1.2ME/U23s) set in the heart of BC’s rugged West Kootenays. Each race offers a challenging course and 125 UCI points (250 total UCI points):
- Race 1 – July 4, 2009 Rossland, BC to Retallack (east of New Denver, BC): 178km point to point (3 sprints, 4 climbs)
- Race 2 – July 5, 2009 Krestova Circuit (near Crescent Valley, BC) 169.4/12.1km circuit (one 2km 6 degree climb)
Also, the date of the Classique Montréal-Québec is still to be confirmed.
